While Run DMT has only been around for three years, he's had a stellar run of things so far. Whether it's doing official remixes for everyone from Major Lazer and The Who (yes, The Who) or being featured as one of the first DJs to take the electronic stage during this year's Vans Warped Tour, the Austin, TX producer has definitely made a splash in the music scene. He doesn't stick to one style of dance music production, but makes sure there is a hearty amount of bass in his productions, and that's done him very well. We imagine you don't know too much about the producer outside of his massive catalog of songs, remixes, and mixes, so we gathered up a batch of facts, ranging from the instrument he played in high school to why he remixed Baraka's theme on the Mortal Kombat remix album. And if you've missed it, check out his remix of Jay Z's "Holy Grail," which recently hit #1 on HypeM.
He has degree in psychology
He played bagpipes at a competition level in high school
He saw his first concert at the age of eight
His first character choice for the "Mortal Kombat" soundtrack was Reptile
The 2011 Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired by the Warriors compilation featured the likes of Skrillex, TOKiMONSTA, araabMUZIK, Bird Peterson, and others remixing theme songs from characters in the game. Run DMT was featured as well, and while he wanted to remix the theme of Reptile, Skrillex already took Reptile, so Run DMT decided to rework Baraka's theme song:
The name RUN DMT came from a local music forum
He has used Fruity Loops to produce music since 2001
He never met any member of The Who, Asking Alexandria, or Fitz and the Tantrums
He learned how to use a mixing board working as the sound guy for a comedy club
Run DMT and Zeale started working together after we had a college Spanish class together
Have they done any songs together in Spanish, we're wondering...
