After watching Miley Cyrus twerk her way through "We Can't Stop" and "Blurred Lines" this past Sunday at the MTV Music Video Awards, you probably thought she was just performing some awkward erotic dance moves for everyone to witness. Well, you would be wrong.

According to Michelle Olson, a professor of exercise science at Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama, the latest dance craze is actually something that can be measured as she explained the science behind it. "You take a wide stance with your legs turned out at 10 and 2 so your hips are externally rotated," Olson says. "Then you pulse up and down as you thrust the pelvis bone forward and back."
