Earlier this year, Justin Timberlake and Kanye West shared two separate onstage moments that cause a bit of controversy.
In February, West declared during a performance, "I got love for Hov but I ain't fucking with that 'Suit & Tie'," referring to Timberlake's then-new single from his album The 20/20 Experience. Timberlake replied back during a performance of his own with Jay Z on Saturday Night Live, stating, "My hit’s so sick, got rappers acting dramatic."
In an interview with Sway In The Morning earlier today, Timberlake detailed the incident, stating the two artists spoke for an hour following the MTV Video Music Awards this past weeked. During the conversation, Timberlake says they "immediately" addressed the "Suit & Tie" performance. "At the end of the day it's just music," Timberlake admits. "I love the record, I love 'Suit & Tie.' It reminds me of the music I grew up listening to. I respect his opinion because I think he's a genius, but I don't share that opinion. It's just not that big of deal. To do it at SNL too is like...it's not that big of deal."
Justin Timberlake also gave Kanye praise during their hour-long conversation. "I told [Kanye], 'I fuck with you, in a way that you probably don't even understand. I get what you do,'" he says. "We've never worked together, so I don't think that he fully understands what it is that I can do." He continued, "I love Yeezus, I love that album. I think he's ahead of a lot, especially in his genre. I think people are going to appreciate it a lot more in the future."
When Timberlake described his desire to work with Kanye, he says the Chicago rapper replied, "'Well, the best way I know how to do that is for us to just sit down and play music.'" Sounds promising.
