"Damn, son, where'd you find this?" indeed.

DJ D.A. just released a compilation of Russian trap music—as in, music very explicitly inspired by the Brick Squad/808 Mafia of the past few years, not pseudo-trendy neo-dubstep club music—entitled Trappin Outta Russia, and it is a very unusual artifact. The rappers on this tape, according to the description, include "trap music artists from all over Russia and the nearest countries."

These artists include Blacka Mane, Gz Bro (confusingly pronounced "Jeezy"), RedRum the Producer, Shashmir, and Young Gipsy; production comes from a few of these names, as well as 808 Mafia's Tarentino, on the hip-hop equivalent of Suntory Time.

Your parents will be unlikely to tell the difference, as this is music primarily designed to emulate as closely as possible the feel and style of post-Lex Luger rap music. But of course, some ideas are lost or distorted in the cultural gap; some of these are charming ("I Am Angry Rap"). Some are ... well, negligent ignorance (the n-bomb count on "Realuminatti"). But by "Nikolay Buxov," if you're not ready to email half the CD to Greg Street personally, then you may not like rap music in the first place.
