In anticipation of his forthcoming album, Kiss Land, The Weeknd drops his latest video for "Belong to the World." It's almost eight minutes long—nearly as long as his first single "Kiss Land"—and takes fans into Abel's mind as he's dealing with the woman he desires.
Hence the "And you girl/I want to embrace you/Domesticate you/But, you belong to the world" lyrics.
The video was shot while Abel was in Japan by Anthony Mandler. Watch it above.
UPDATE: Portishead's Geoff Barrow Responds To Track, Accuses Weeknd of Sampling Without Permission
Shortly after the song was released, Portishead's Geoff Barrow responded on Twitter saying the band never gave Weeknd permission to sample them. The sample in question must be Portishead's "Machine Gun" from their 2008 album, Third, which features a similar drum pattern.
The English band isn't always opposed to being sampled. Last year, they allowed ScHoolboy Q to sample their song "Cowboys" for his song "Raymond 1969." According to Nickelus F, Barrow had previously approved of his 2009 project, R.A.R.E. (Reliving A Real Experience), which had Nickelus rapping over Portishead beats.
