Fat Joe became definitely the first rapper ever to forget to pay his taxes.
Date: June 24
We've been over this territory before with so many artists in hip-hop, and it's not encouraging that Lauryn Hill—wait, this is about Fat Joe? Jesus. I could have sworn we just went through this.
Hustling might be the key to success, but getting a decent accountant is key to hanging onto to the fruit of that success. Fat Joe this learned this the hard way this week, when he was sentenced to four months in prison, a $15,000 fine, and a year of supervised release for failing to pay taxes going back to 2007. He'd already been nabbed back in December, at the time blaming it on "fancy guys in bow ties." (Hey, Chris Brown has enough problems this week—no need to pin it on him!) Well, at least Joe didn't do his accountant like Gunplay did his. Joe is out on $250,000 bail and will begin serving his sentence in August. —David Drake
