If you want to bank the future of the drum & bass scene on the shoulders of a few, you want to consider Villem as one of those pillars. He's been heralded by Dub Phizix as one of the best new talents in drum & bass, a fact that's been solidified with releases on Hospital's Med School imprint, Symmetry, Ingredients, and Utopia Music, which is run by Villem's partner in Mute, Mako. Villem's 2012 was slick, and his 2013 is looking much brighter. He breathes life into the deeper side of drum & bass while maintaining a knack for neck snapping beats.

For his addition to our Five Tracks series, Villem gave us a clear picture of his influences, with everyone from Aphex Twin to 4Hero making an appearance. We love when you can truly see how each of these tunes has played a part in an artist's growth. Here are Villem's Five Tracks.

Aphex Twin - "Xtal"

This album, man, I've not heard this for a while, just listening now it sends me into some sort of ecstasy induced flashback. I once tried to fall asleep whilst of the aforementioned substance and its left an indelible impression. Its so dreamy and gooey, yet at times dark and menacing but never abrasive.

D*Note - "Waiting Hopefully (4 Hero Vocal Mix)"

I keep coming back to this particular song, its got all the elements I love. Soulful vocals, 808 bass, breakbeats, and musical vibes all put together perfectly by one of the pioneers of the drum & bass underground.

Floating Points - "Wires"

Been following Sam Shepherd's music for a while now, and he never fails to bring a kaleidoscope of sounds that interweave so effortlessly. This particular track is him performing with a band in 2010, its being released soon on Eglo Records. Eglo is run by Alexander Nut, I listen to his Rinse FM show religiously.

D-Train - "You're The One For Me (Labour of Love Remix) [Single Edit]"

I DJ other music for fun and I love mixing 80s vocal tunes, they've got a tonne of energy. This one is remixed by Paul Hardcastle, who was huge in that decade. Love the synth parts that accompany the vocals.

Robert Glasper Experiment ft. Erykah Badu - "Afro Blue"

This album was on constant repeat in my car, its got that jazz vibe but with more of a nod to the neo-soul movement that was centered around The Soulquarians in the early 2000s.
