Dom Kennedy has been making season-dominating slow-rolling summer jams for a long time.  Despite his massive popularity on the country's left side, he'd struggled to make much of an impact outside of it. Until last year, the DJ Dahi-produced "My Type of Party" managed to heave itself outside of the West Coast regional niche to which Kennedy has often been confined.

"Never" isn't quite as insistent as the highly-remixable synth-driven hookiness of "Party," but it does have a laying-on-the-grass-looking-at-the-clouds vibe, which is a nice change-up. Somehow, Dom manages to make one simple flow work for him; the variety is in the punchlines, beat selection, and overarching atmosphere, rather than flow or technical variety or diversity. But no one wants to hear him step outside his lane anyway.
