The 100 Best Native Tongues Songs

91. Chi-Ali "Roadrunner" (1992)

Producer: The Beatnuts
Album: N/A
Label: Relativity/Violator

Chi-Ali was not a teen rapper of Special Ed's caliber, but he had a great production and writing team behind him in the form of the extended Native Tongues family. "Roadrunner" is a silly, surreal song that has De La written all over its lyrics. The Beatnuts provide the beats; their work on this album and on Common's Can I Borrow A Dollar landed them their first record contract with Relativity. The "Puberty" mix features production by Tribe and Chi-Ali rapping with a deeper voice.
