An appropriately dark video.

The first time we ever heard Meg Myers was back in 2011 with “Monster.” It was an immediate yes, yes, yes, yes kind of moment, but the real magic came with Meg’s first video for that same song.

Over the past few years, the music video has taken on a strange role. For a while, when MTV started playing nothing but reality television and idiots kept rambling on about how the music video is dead and how, “Blah, blah, blah, it’s called MUSIC television and they don’t even play music anymore and wah, wah, wah I don’t like reality TV and meow, meow, meow, meow.”

Meanwhile, the music video morphed into something completely different. Artists started going viral, and it was very rarely without the help of at least one good video that introduced a world of aesthetics that goes way beyond sound and brings up some interesting questions about what people are looking for from musicians in 2013.

From the beginning, Meg Myers is an artist that gets it. She constantly updates her social media platforms with personal photos and videos, but when it comes time to actually make a music video, Meg Myers does not fuck around.

And her latest just premiered on Jay-Z’s Life + Times. And it’s another set of visuals that brings her music to life in a powerful way. So yeah, music videos aren’t dead, just ask Meg Myers.
