The Roots have kept relatively quiet since 2011’s Undun (besides their nightly gigs on Late-Night, obviously), but the next album is supposedly on the way. Hardknock TV recently caught up with Black Thought and his bandmates Kirk Douglas and Mark Kelley for a chat about the next LP and a few of the band’s influences. After discussing the songs that made them enter hip-hop (Afrika Bambaataa’s “Planet Rock” did it for Black Thought), the frontman shared some insight into the new record, saying:

None

After that, Hardknock started asking Black Thought for his thoughts on MTV’s recent “Hottest MCs in the Game” list. He admitted that he’s “not really too hung up on the rappers of the moment” and went on to name his five all-time favorites: Kool G Rap, Rakim, Chuck D, KRS-One and Big Daddy Kane.
