Nine months later, we get a deeper look into D’Angelo’s surprise appearance at last year’s Bonnaroo. Today “Bonnaroo365” unveils part one of a documentary about the “Superjam” that brought D’Angelo back to an American stage for the first time in over a decade. Episode one, “Origins,” follows Roots drummer Questlove, who planned the event and assembled an incredible crew of musicians for the jam.
After some rehearsal footage, this first clip culminates with the whole band covering the Time’s “My Summertime Thang,” written by Prince. Watch that above and stay tuned for more clips in the future, featuring covers of the Ohio Players, ParliamentFunkadelic and the Beatles.
