At this point, LL Cool J has nothing left to prove. He's already one of hip-hop's most celebrated MCs, with a slew of prestigious music within his vast catalog. So when he performs at SXSW in Austin next week, maybe he's doing it for nostalgia's sake.

In an interview with Boombox, the rapper-turned-actor says his showcase will feature performances from Doug E. Fresh, Ice Cube and Public Enemy as well. But while SXSW is reserved for indie artists, LL says he relishes the opportunity. "If anything it's a compliment to be on the same stage with some of the hungriest people in the world," he told Boombox. "I feel it's kind of like comparing college players to NFL players. Some of the big guys in the NFL keep that hunger from the time they are in college to when they make it to the big leagues."
