New Jersey's Tsu Surf is an emcee who makes his rounds in the battle rap scene as well. Today he put out his newest mixtape, A New Mood, and "Broken Dreams" is one of the standout gems on the project. Surf anchors the last verse, but the two guests he has to accompany on the track arguably outclass him. The second verse belongs to Fred The Godson, who manages to string together one of his finer efforts.
Meanwhile, TDE's Ab-Soul starts the track off with flair and panache, perhaps aided by the fact that this song is conceptually right down his ally. His closing line hits home: "Sometimes I feel more awake with my eyes closed." It's a feeling almost everyone chasing a dream has had.
A New Mood also features fellow Jersey native Joe Budden and NBA superstar Kevin Durant, an interesting set of guest emcees to be sure.
