Stop Everything You're Doing, the Copyright Alert System Has Launched

The Center for Copyright Information has a friendly (terrifying) video to explain.

Well, folks, the golden age of music piracy may finally be coming to an end — or so hopes the Center for Copyright Information, at least. This week marks the launch of the CCI’s Copyright Alert System aimed at preventing illegal downloads. The CAS will identify the IP addresses of computers downloading pirated content and send them an “educational notice” (read: terrifying warning) that they’re in violation of the law. If the user ignores the notice and keeps downloading, the Internet provider may block their browsing temporarily or throttle their bandwidth.

Major Internet providers AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner and Verizon are all apparently set to participate in the program. The CCI posted the video below to explain the situation in what feels like a pretty passive aggressive tone (yeah, we’re all totally Torrenting by accident).
