The 50 Most Anticipated Albums of 2013

26. MGMT, MGMT

Release Date: TBA
Label: Columbia

When MGMT talks about their music, you get the idea that they don't hear their own music the same way everyone else does. With their debut album, a few extremely catchy songs put them at the forefront of electronic-leaning indie music. Their second album, the slightly more psychedelic Congratulations, didn't have those kind of hits, but lead singer Andrew VanWyngarden still doesn't understand why people would call it a difficult album. As for the third album, Andrew says it's mostly done and that he isn't really anxious about it. MGMT has already dealt with the pressure of being a buzz band, and it sounds like they've basically backed off into their own world, doing what they want and remaining unconcerned with what everyone else thinks. Sometimes that's when the best music is made.
