10 Music Industry Heads Who Should Be A&Rs

Brian “B. Dot” Miller

Organization: RapRadar
Instrumental in the rise of: Macklemore, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Mac Miller

The most hated blogger: Brian “B. Dot” Miller. He’s the coolest dude in person, and some of the time, he has questionable music taste. But when he’s right, he’s right!

First, there's J. Cole. A lot of people credit a few different bloggers for Cole. The main person they credit for finding Cole is Karen Civil because she was the main marketing person behind him. But according to an AlLindstrom interview with Karen Civil, B. Dot put her on to Cole.

B. Dot is the type of dude that’s going to love that rappity rap, that ’90s stuff. But at the same time, he’ll pull for an artist like Macklemore—who no tastemaker or blogger was picking up. He found out about him and realized what he was going to be.

B. Dot is the type of dude that’s going to love that rappity rap, that ’90s shit. But at the same time, he’ll pull for an artist like Macklemore—who no tastemaker or blogger was picking up. He found out about that and realized what it was going to be. And when it came down to it, who sold more first week, MGK or Macklemore? And this is the independent Macklemore versus the major label MGK. Macklemore. B. Dot saw that.

You also have to give him credit for Mac Miller. There's sites like GoodMusicAllDay.com—who deserves a lot of credit—or ImFlashy.com or HipHopUpdate who supported Mac. But those sites are small, not huge, but they have followings. But out of the top tier blogs, he was able to say, "Okay this dude Mac Miller is going to be a superstar." He was the first one to really support him.

And there’s another person too: Kendrick Lamar. Now, B. Dot likes to say he championed Kendrick early but he wasn’t the only one. However, he claims that he’s the one who told Paul Rosenberg—who is Eminem’s manager and the owner of RapRadar—about Kendrick Lamar who in turn told Dr. Dre. That story isn't verified, but B. Dot tweeted that and it’s true that he was supporting Kendrick back when he was still calling himself K-Dot and that he has access to Paul Rosenberg.

B. Dot has his misses, but when he’s on, he’s on. So you have to fuck with him.
