DJ Toomp: “Around the time I made 'Shawty Freak A Lil’ Sumtin,' I had just gotten back from Miami [from years working with groups like 2 Live Crew] and I was trying to really get my foot back in the door, because everybody was considering me to be a Miami bass producer, and wouldn’t really just give me my props as just a producer. But when I started messing around with Lil Jon, that’s when people started hearing a different side of me.

“What’s crazy is, when we were putting the Get Crunk, Who You Wit album together, it wasn’t really no budget, it was just friendship and just, 'Ay man, let’s put our hearts into it and just see what happens.'

“Lil Jon had me come out to the studio. I think Too Short was funding a lot of his stuff back then. I remember how at first while making the record, the Eastside Boyz were singing the chorus, 'Shawty freak a little something!' and I was like, 'No, we got to get somebody that can really sing...' So we decided to put Jazzy Pha on it and that was the perfect plan.

“It ended up being a big record. And I ended up having about three songs on that particular album.”
