A$AP Yams: “What made me buy State Property was that they had so many joints on the mixtapes on the album that was so dope, I was like, ‘I got to buy this motherfucker.’ That was the first time that I was really able to hear a lot of Freeway’s music, cause you know Freeway was hot back then, you know what I’m saying? Everybody was fucking with Free, and a lot of people didn’t even know what he looked like. That was the crazy shit. But it was the rumors. I used to hear rumors like, ‘Yo I heard Freeway’—this comes right after 9/11—’I heard Freeway Muslim and all that.’ Back then, when you think about Muslim, you thinking about some crazy Arabic motherfucker, like. But when I seen Free, the whole album was crazy, cause you feel like he was crying halfway through that motherfucker. Like Ghostface and shit.
“Of course, Young Chris, who really helped, you know, he helped inspire Jay for The Blueprint 2. I believe that as a fan, you know what I mean? Helped inspire Jay for The Blueprint 2, with his flows, and you had the other Omillio Sparks, he was crazy with it too. He was the OBD of the clique, and you had Oschino as a straight rapper, and Beans—you know Beans caught, you know what I’m saying? And that was right coming right off the whole The LOX and Nas verses, State Property. Jay was going off on them, but State Property was on them for three motherfucking hours.
“That was coming off, I was like, ‘I got to buy that now.’ So to me, this as far as fond memories, I got to go with State Property.”
