It might have been the week of Kendrick Lamar—what with the release of good kid, m.A.A.d. city and all—but plenty of other artists made their mark in the past five days. These include a certain Detroit-repping G.O.O.D. Music artist, a New York City producer and his close rapper friends, and a Canadian singer with a penchant for sensual and lovelorn lyricism. You can catch up on the best songs of the week by clicking below.

Hot Sugar f/ Kool A.D., Fat Tony, Lakutis & Nasty Nigel "Leverage"

"Leverage" is the latest preview off Hot Sugar's upcoming free EP, MiDi Murder. And it finds the New York City-based associate music producer linking with four talented MCs who share the heavy beat with varied flows and rhymes. Das Racist's Kool A.D. opens the track in his typical fashion, throwing out verbal barbs and hilarious wordplay, while his cohorts—Fat Tony, Lakutis, and Nasty Nigel—do much of the same.

Meek Mill "Intro"

As Meek Mill's "Intro" begins, it sounds like your typical intro on a rap album. It's calm, boasts some nice lyrics, and builds your anticipation for the project. Then, quite unexpectedly, a switch goes off and the beat flips, and Meek goes into beast mode feeding enough energy to light up NYC—or, more fittingly, Philly. This is the Meek that so many people can relate to, that feeling of having a chip on their shoulder.

The Weeknd "Enemy"

Unlike most of the music we've been hearing from The Weeknd lately, "Enemy" will not appear as one of the three new tracks on his upcoming Trilogy compilation. Rather, it's a thank-you note (of sorts) to his fans, particularly those who can't make it to his three sold-out NYC shows. It's also a sensual number that's sure to please some of his more bedroom-inclined listeners.

Angel Haze "Cleaning Out My Closet"

A good way to impress hip-hop heads is be able to hold your own over a classic instrumental. Check that off of Angel Haze's list as she spits an emotional and very deep song over Eminem's "Cleaning Out My Closet." She speaks on past sexual abuse and how she is openly bisexual. The song ends on a very positive note as she reminds listeners that she has persevered through all of her struggles.

Big Sean "Guap"

After some prominent features on Cruel Summer, the hype is up for Big Sean’s sophomore LP. Last night the Detroit rapper finally dropped the first single off Hall of Fame and it did not disappoint. On “Guap,” Sean brings a relatively simple yet poignant flow to a laid-back track from producers Key Wane and Young Chop.
