The 50 Most Anticipated Albums For the Rest of 2012

13. M.I.A., Matangi

Release Date: December
Label: Roc Nation/Interscope

In typical M.I.A. fashion, promotion of her fourth studio album, Matangi, has been sparse and cryptic. Last month, she tweeted a lo-fi picture of a possible tracklist and answered questions from fans. She detailed specifics like no features, only working producers who aren’t “fame whore colonisers”, and described the genre of her album as “Paul Simon on acid.” Oh, and it will be released with a book, an art exhibition, and a film. Needless to say, the LP sounds exciting.
