Lupe just turned 30 in February, and in the half decade or so that he's been active, the Chicago native has become one of the most polarizing figures in hip-hop. His interviews, Twitter rants, and music have drawn criticisms, yet, it’s these characteristics that make Lupe one of the genre’s greatest artists and lyricists today.
His latest release, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, is an example of Lupe in his element—rapping about political and social content with a sharp focus on technical delivery. It’s been his musical style for a number of years and looks to be for the foreseeable.
