Bago: “There’s always a theme of love and betrayal in everything I do. That’s the theme of my writing and the theme of my Tumblr. No one’s perfect. You hurt the people you love the most. It’s a terrible thing but I guess that’s the way people work. I’m a big lover so I just want to love everybody but I’m also really sensitive.
“Everybody has felt betrayed. From the playground to going to work everyday. Everybody works so hard every single day at something, but sometimes at the end of the day it doesn’t work out the way you want it to. It’s disappointing. There’s something extremely beautiful and romantic about that disappointment because it will inspire you to either work hard or not want to work at all and call it off. There’s something extremely emotional about that. Music is emotional.
“Everybody's connection with music is to be one with it. That’s why people relate to an artist and they’re feeling a certain way. When you’re feeling a certain way or you’re feeling at all, you’re alive. That’s inspiring. People are crazy right now. All these mental breaks, I guess. People are freaking out in the streets. eating people’s faces and shooting off movies theatres. It’s crazy. It’s been hard for a lot of people. A lot of people have lost a lot of things.
“Even people in college. You’re told to go to college, you’re told this is going to shape your future and make you awesome, but then you graduate and they’ve got nothing for you. I think that one is definitely a huge inspiration to me. When you graduate in a time when no one’s got a job for you. I guess I’ll write about that.
“[When I graduated it was like that] I guess I can be a worry wart. So I definitely worried about my future [when I graduated]. Then it just kind of happened and I found myself serving at a restaurant. But I’m happier than I’ve ever been. I’m telling you, you sing better when you’re broke. You really need something. You cry sometimes for no reason but it’s all good because you’re like, “Okay, now what. Why don’t you stop crying? You’re broke.
“I wouldn’t say [I cry] for no reason, but I’m emotional. I’ll have a hard time watching the Olympics sometimes. I’m Chinese so I have a soft spot for China. I love USA obviously, I’m going to root for them. But I always have a soft spot for China.
“I was watching the men’s gymnastic and I was like I have to stop watching this because I’m going to cry. The Chinese go in on the gymnastics. All that is emotional. They want that. It’s hard to find people who have that kind of passion. They work their whole lives for that. They get that one moment. That’s a tough game to play.
“Everything is tied together; music, art, fashion, the whole nine. Everybody is inspired by something and it’s all related, one leads into the next. I think a lot of [the pictures I’ve posted on my Tumblr] inspired my record. It’s very dark.”
