Thulani Davis’ 1997 novel Maker of Saints is getting a film adaptation, and there’s at least one major musician onboard. Erykah Badu has reportedly signed on to star in the thriller alongside Roger Guenveur Smith (American Gangster, Do the Right Thing). Badu has made it to the silver screen a few times before with roles in The Cider House Rules, House of D, Blues Brothers 2000 and the upcoming The Die By Dawn, but The Maker of Saints would likely be her highest-billed role to date.

There are also rumors flying around about Yasiin Bey (the artist formerly known as Mos Def) having a role as well. Bey, of course, has had a fairly rich acting career of his own, with roles in films such as Be Kind Rewind, The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Monster’s Ball. Maker of Saints is expected to hit theaters sometime next year.
