The 100 Best Kanye West Songs

89. Rell f/ Kanye West & Consequence "Real Love" (2005)

Album: N/A
Producer: Boola
Label: Roc-A-Fella

How many years did the Roc try to push Rell? Close to 10, right? Well, despite being Dave Chappelle’s doppleganger, the R&B crooner never released an album of his own. His features were always dope, and when “You’ll See” dropped, it seemed his debut album was in the cards. The slick remake of Tribe’s “Electric Relaxation” blazed mixtapes and mix-shows, and featured fellow Roc-A-Fella-ian Kanye West, and the return of Tribe-affiliate Consequence. It made perfect sense! It was like the new Native Tongues movement.

While the Rell thing never happened, he did leave us with this monster, on which Kanye was clearly the star. Flipping Phife’s verse and delivery from “Electric Relaxation,” Ye dropped hilarious lines like: “We showed you on champions how we get down/So don’t twist your lips up like Bobby Brown” and “I ain’t have to stay in class/To figure out R&B niggas get all the ass.”
