As we reported in January, Jay-Z announced a joint venture with Duracell Powermat, LLC. This means that Jay is officially an investment partner and spokesmen for the brand. In moving forward with his partnership, they have introduced their “Wireless Power Nation” campaign.

If you are unfamiliar with Powermat, it is an apparatus that allows users to charge cell phones wirelessly by placing it on a mat. Jay-Z wants to add this device to his 40/40 Club so patrons can have access to wireless charge stations. The mats are going to look similar to coasters but will double as cell phone chargers.

Powermat CEO Ron Rabinowitz explained the device in further detail during an interview with Mashable.

“People will be able to charge wirelessly on embedded ‘wireless power hot spots’ in public venues where they travel and interact throughout their day," he said. "All they will need to do is put their phone on the table, same thing they normally do. The only difference is that now, their smartphones will get charged from the table.”
