Beyonce has won countless awards during her stunning musical career. Now, she can add an award for journalism.

The New York Association of Black Journalists is honoring Beyonce with a writing award on May 15. This past July 2011, she wrote a cover story for Essence titled “Eat, Play, Love.” It covers her nine-month hiatus from music in 2010, before returning to record 4.

The piece reveals how Bey savored the tiny moments, looking for inspiration in life’s simple pleasures, which also include traveling with Jay-Z around the world. She also wrote about her adventures posing as a Harajuku girl at the Tokyo nightclubs.

"She's a real writer. We had to edit her, but everyone gets edited except Toni Morrison,"  said Essence entertainment director Cori Murray.
