In 2012, Lee Fields is an unlikely name to be buzzing. He's been making music since the late '60s, and his sound is undeniably old-school. Maybe that's part of the appeal. These days, so many artists are trying to keep up with what's cool, and so many of the up-and-comers fit nicely into pockets of new trends that are likely to fade away as quickly as they emerged.
Instead of trying to keep up, Lee Fields sticks to his guns, and with Faithful Man, he's made an album that sounds like it could have been released any time in the last 50 years. It's timeless, soulful, and in 2012 it's a refreshing thing to hear.
