Erykah Badu was set to perform in Malaysia on Tuesday but the Muslim-majority country banned her appearance after a photograph surfaced with the singer sporting a temporary tattoo with the Arabic word for Allah written on her body.

The American Grammy-winning singer was scheduled for a concert Wednesday in Kuala Lampur. However, some Muslim groups felt Badu was not a perfect role model for young Malaysians, even though the Allah tattoo that appeared in publicity photos was temporary. According to police and Islamic policy officials, they denied Badu’s show because the body art was an “insult” and could trigger “public criticism that could jeopardize national security.”

Badu was slated to perform in an auditorium that could hold 3,000 audience members. As of now, she is still in Malaysia as a tourist, but will not be allowed to perform.
