"Ima Read," featuring Njena Reddd Foxxx, is the new single from Mad Decent's Zebra Katz, and despite what the title sounds like, it's not a track encouraging young people to read. According to the Mad Decent site, "reading is an old voguing term describing someone verbally insulting an opponent about something not so apparent to the average viewer."
The beat starts off sounding like it might break into an all-out club record, but it stays grounded with a minimalist, ominous vibe. For the video, Zebra Katz maintains a calm, cold delivery and puts his performance art background to use for a dramatic effect. At a time when rap weirdos seem to be taking over, Zebra Katz is definitely someone to keep an eye on.
