Video: Mike D Joins The Colbert Report To Define The Word "Illin"

There seems to have been a misunderstanding by New York Times puzzle editor.

Shit gets real in the field with New York Times crossword puzzles. Editor Will Shortz recently used clue "wack, for hip-hop" for the word "Illin" and it didn't sit right with reader Julieanne Smolinski, who pointed out that the two words are not synonyms. The editor struck back with his response, arguing the word means "stupid, insane." Mass confusion ensued.

In Stephen Colbert's attempt to get to the bottom of this, he called Hip-Hop Grammarian Mike D of the Beastie Boys to clear the air and settle the score with the real meaning of "illin." Watch his hilarious explanation above.
