While Jay didn't coin the term “Black Hoodie Rap” until 2008, “Pre-Game” must've been his 1998 prototype. This sinister strain from the Belly soundtrack found Jigga and his former partner in crime, Sauce Money, sharing tales of the trife life over a murderous Spencer Bellamy instrumental. Jay christened himself the black Scorsese, and claimed foes didn't paint pictures, they simply traced his (he's never had self-confidence issues). Unfortunately, Sauce's debut, Middle Finger U, failed to set the world on fire—mostly because it lacked more Jay-Z.
