Bun B has always proudly represented the city of Houston, and today he was given what may be the ultimate sign of gratitude: an official "Bernard 'Bun B' Freeman Day," declared by Mayor Annise Parker. The rapper, best known for being half of legendary duo UGK, was recognized for his contributions to the community, and he made it clear in his speech to the City Council that helping his city is a priority he takes very seriously:

I do believe that regardless of your status, or tax bracket, or where you reside, we all have a civic duty to help our fellow citizens. I resign myself to that notion faithfully and I try to do my best to instill these principles into the next generation.

Congratulations, Bun. It's well-deserved. To return the token of respect, Bun B has apparently accepted Mayor Parker into Team Trill.

@anniseparker The honor was all mine. Definitely a defining moment in my life. The city of Houston is in good hands. Welcome to #TeamTrill
