Story of The Week: Gil Scott-heron passes away

Sadly, this week marked the passing of music legend Gil Scott-Heron. Although the cause of death has yet to be determined, Heron died in St. Luke's Hospital in New York City on Friday, May 27th. He was 62 years old. Shortly before his death he had been admitted to the hospital, after falling ill upon his return from a recent trip to Europe.

Heron's great recording career has left a lasting impression on hip-hop culture, and is punctuated by his greatest work, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised." Gil Scott-Heron will be sorely missed, and we will keep his family in our thoughts. Rest in peace.

Song of The Week: Tech N9ne f/ Lil Wayne, & T-Pain “FUck Food”

This week we got a leak from Tech N9ne's highly anticipated All 6's And 7's album. This is probably only the first of two collaborations with Lil Wayne, and if the second sounds anything like this, then we're not complaining at all. Tech switches it up and enlists T-Pain to hop on the track with Weezy and himself, and together they cook up a banger. The album is in stores next week.

Nardwuar's track record interviewing rappers is getting better and more extensive by the month. One of our favorites though, was his interview with hip-hop's resident funny-man and botanist, Curren$y. This week, the two kept the laughs coming by teaming up once again for a second interview. This time Nardwuar wises up and comes bearing gifts, because last time Curren$y just stole all of his props anyway.

Win of The Week / Fail of The Week

kreayshawn

Probably having the best week ever this week is East Oakland's resident White Girl Mob representative, Kreayshawn. After her song "Gucci Gucci" became a massive viral hit, Tuesday Miss Info reported that the 21-year-old had signed a record deal with Sony worth about $1 million. She totally denied it when we asked her about it, but we're going with our girl Miss Info on this one.

Taking the L this week is Beanie Sigel. The former Roc-a-fella Records artist, who has released numerous videos and diss records directed at Jay-Z and the rest of his former labelmates, has now reneged on his stance and issued an apology. "I should have never done that," Sig said. Better late than never, but we, and certainly his accountant, could've told him that a long time ago.

Number of The Week: How Much Money Did Amazon Lose By Selling Lady Gaga’s Album For 99 Cents?

gag amazon 99 cents
When Amazon decided to sell Lady Gaga's album for just 99 cents last week, it seemed like a good idea at the time. That was until the servers crashed, and they had to shut it down and restart the entire process. Lady Gaga didn't mind, as she went on to say that she doesn't believe her album is worth any more than a buck. But after Born This Way was certified platinum in one week, Amazon was left with second thoughts. How much did they lose exactly? Welp, after doing the math, it is believed that the e-commerce site lost approximately $3 million.
