The Teflon President: Our 10 Favorite Ronald Reagan Lyrical References

#3. Jay-Z “Blue Magic” (2007)

Lyrics: “Blame Reagan for making me into a monster/Blame Oliver North and Iran-Contra/I ran contraband that they sponsored/Before this rhyming stuff, we was in concert.”
Complex says: Jay is referring to something first exposed in journalist Gary Webb’s book, Dark Alliance, where Webb accused the Reagan administration of being aware that the CIA was allowing Nicaraguan Contras to smuggle cocaine into the United States (which later fueled the crack epidemic) in order to fund illegal operations overseas. So we can’t knock Jay for blaming Reagan. Either way, we’re sure that line didn’t offend his (democratic) political connects.
