Year: 1993
Produced By: Buhloone Mind State
Album: Prince Paul and De La Soul
Label: Tommy Boy
By the time Buhloone Mind State rolled around, De La was really jaded about show business and the fleeting nature of fame, and these topics made an appearance on nearly every song on the album. "En Focus" felt a little different from the rest because the tone is more sarcastic than dreary; Dres and Shortie No Mas have some excellent ad-libs that serve as a kind of comic relief.

#63 used to be my joint...bumped it in the whip constantly...that is an example of a hip-hop song that is perfected, stripped down beats and rhymes....crazy

I don't care who you are—if you were even remotely curious about the process of producing hip-hop music, your mind was blown the second you realized that Tribe had turned Minnie Ripperton's whistle-pitch vocals into an instrument ^^^^^ This.
