Lil Wayne's rise from scrappy New Orleanian underdog to one of rap's biggest stars (and easily one of its most talented) has been a slow one. Inducted to the Cash Money family while still a young teen, the MC trained under some of Southern rap's greatest spitters.
In the time since, we've seen him embrace many roles: the hyperactive teenage soldier; the blinging bounce-rap hookmaster; the mixtape assassin; the syrup-sippin' space cadet experimentalist; the Auto-Tuned pop-rap heartthrob; and the wannabe rock star.
From a distance, these creative periods seem disparate, if not completely schizophrenic, but the evolution makes sense when you look at his enormous body of work as a whole. At his best, Weezy is all of these things at once, a jack of all trades and a master of most. As he emerges from his much publicized Riker's Island stay, Complex jumped headfirst into Wayne's seemingly infinite discography to select his 100 Greatest Songs.

Nice job on the list man. I know this is kinda an old rticle but to really look at his catalog of music and put together a top hundred is daunting and this was a good job. it include both old and newer music. So of course here's my list of THE FORGOTTEN; 1. Tie my Hands 2. Receipt 3. Oh let's do it (no ceilings) 4. Ice cream paint job (no ceilings) 5. wasted remix 6. gonnoreha 7. roger that 8. Actually it is Lil Waynes song, dumbass. He has the hook plus 2 verses while Drake has 1 verse and nothing else. The song was on Waynes album, not Drakes. Dumbass

horrible list tbh. you guys made the list in terms of how popular they were versus the amount of skill was in the songs. epic fail..smh lollipop should be 1000 oon the list, gossip should be way higher, where is beat without bass, or pray to the lord..wheres spitter, this what i call her, ect.ect...

Not a bad list, entertaining read.....but where is Tie My Hands?!! It's the most inspirational and one of the most beautiful songs Wayne's ever done! A top 15 in my mind, but an absolute must for any top 100 list.

Great read. You should write another article about the Lights Out and Sqad Up time period. The material he put out during that time is underrated.
