Interview: Curren$y On "Pilot Talk," Dame Dash, And His Relationship With Lil Wayne

Complex: What's the longest you've gone without smoking?

Curren$y: Whoa! One time I had strep throat so I ain't smoke for like four days, but that was in like 2008. It was a horrible time. But other than that, everything has been okay. I have not gone one fuckin' hour without smokin'. [Laughs.] Shit, not even a half-hour.

Complex: Damn, have you ever gone in the booth sober?

Curren$y: Yeah, a couple songs off that Independence Day mixtape when I had that strep throat. I recorded "Anti Club" and a few other songs, but I ain't miss a beat. I was just sweatin' my ass off in the booth.

Complex: Being in New York and in the industry I know you have seen a lot of people take it a little further when it comes to that drug shit, have you ever dabbled in anything other than some herbal?

Curren$y: Nah, I'm just chillin' man. I don't do drugs. It's out there, though. I have been out here and seen all that shit but I don't want no part of it. I mean, the parties are cool and cocaine is cool for some chicks, but I'm okay.

Complex: Yeah there wasn't too much of that at your album listening at DD172.

Curren$y: [Laughs.] Nah, not at all. You were there? You shoulda came and said wassup. We coulda smoked one.

Complex: Yeah, we could've, but I don't think Dame was too happy with us because we had our laptops out...

Curren$y: Nah dog, did he really do that? [Curren$y calls out to Dame Dash] Yo, Dame! [Back to us] Dude, I don't know if that happened. I read that and we was laughing because we don't think that happened.

Complex: A dude did approach us and said Dame was watching us on the cameras and he asked us if we were recording...

Curren$y: [Curren$y starts talking to Dame Dash] Remember this shit about the laptops and Complex said you were gonna sic the goons on 'em? That ain't happen, right? [Back to us] He said he'll send you the tapes. [Laughs.] He wants to know when it happened.

Complex: It wasn't Dame who ran up on us, it was some random guy...

Curren$y: Hold on...[Dame Dash gets on the phone]

Dame Dash: What's happenin', man?

Complex: What's good, Dame?

Dame Dash: You the dude that wrote that?

Complex: I was one of them, yeah.

Dame: You know it wasn't enough for me to address and it sounded amusing, but I said one day I will run into that guy and ask him what it was that he heard. What I'ma do is, I'ma send you guys the tape and expect you guys to watch it since y'all are stand-up guys and fix what you said that might not be true.

Complex: It wasn't you who approached us, but another person speaking for you.

Dame: Oh, okay, I might have read it wrong, but I'll still send the tapes. Cool? Here you go. [He gives the phone back to Curren$y]

Curren$y: Yeah, we didn't know about any goons but that was funny. Dame ain't say that shit. We have heard so much shit about this one dude who was there, some jerk, who was trying to talk to everybody. Eskay told me dude wouldn't even let him upstairs to holla at me so a couple people have told us about him. We don't know about that or who it was. Somebody was just clearly whylin'.

Complex: Well, now we know.

Curren$y: Yeah, just come back another time and we'll smoke one.

Complex: Will do.
