#7: Snoop Dogg f/ Butch Cassidy, The Eastsidaz, Nate Dogg & Master P "Lay Low"

#7: Snoop Dogg f/ Butch Cassidy, The Eastsidaz, Nate Dogg & Master P "Lay Low"

Released: 2001
The No Limit model clearly drew a lot from Death Row before it, particularly in the use of posse cuts with interchangeable rosters. When Snoop unexpectedly came to The Tank, he produced some great records but never quite felt like a comfortable fit, his smoothed-out flow often sounding ill-suited to Beats By The Pound's tinny sound. "Lay Low" stands as the most successful product of the alliance because it puts P in Snoop's world, not the other way around. Dr. Dre's beat could sit comfortably on his 2001 and has the very Dre effect of being greater than the sum of its parts, making all of Snoop's weed carriers (and maybe even P himself) sound better than they ever had.

Overall, this is a decent list a best. I figured it would be tough considering No Limit will go down arguably as the most underrated record label of all time. But, I think anyone in the South/Midwest will tell you there are some true gems from No Limit's era missing. From 1996-1999 (maybe even 2000 depending on who you ask), No Limit had a helluva run.

What a terrible list. Break Em Off Somethin' not in the top 5? No Limit Soldiers #9? Whoever wrote this has never been to the South.

No Lil' Romeo? This is an outrage! But seriously, this is a good list. I would have pesonally included several more Mac songs, but still a solid top 25. Same with the Rap-A-Lot 25 from a week ago.
