Love And Happiness

Artist: Monty Alexander
Released: 1974
Sampled On…:
The Beatnuts "Let off A Couple" (1994)
(Produced By The Beatnuts)
Monty Alexander

Kon Says: Amazing cover version of the Al Green song, taking things in a different direction. The Beatnuts used that for a loop on Street Level, straight up—they didn’t put drums over it, nothing. Monty Alexander is a piano player from Jamaica. Another great example of what a cover should be.

Amir Says: On that same album Rass!, Large Professor used another song. That album became an in-demand record that's never really seen but people are looking for. The Beatnuts and Large Professor used it. Huge hip hop joints were made off of that album.

Also used by the Bomb Squad again on 'Night of the Living Baseheads'. I reckon the Isleys were first with this. JB had a bit of a rep for nicking other people's instrumentals. And replacing a vocal with horn lines seems more likely than the reverse.
