Sloppy Seconds: Music's Most Disappointing Sophomore Albums

Nas

Nas It Was Written (1996)
DEBUT HYPE: At 18 years old, Nas was a rap prodigy (no disrespect to Mobb Deep's Prodigy), who's 1994 debut Illmatic raised the bar of lyrical efficiency.
SOPHOMORE SLUMP: As Nas's highest selling album to date, 1996's It Was Written is largely written off because of it's mainstream ambitions. In retrospect, it's far from his worst (Nastradamus and Streets Disciple are currently fighting that one out), but there's no denying it was a big step down from Illmatic.
