When we first heard the news that My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way was working on a comic book, we were skeptical. If there's one thing we learned from Jewel's poetry books, it's that sometimes musicians need to just stay in their own lane. So we were pleasantly surprised to discover that Way's comic series The Umbrella Academy is actually dope.
To find out how he made the transition look so easy, we decided to get inside Gerard's mind for our regular "Mantras" feature in the Feb/March issue of Complex. The man has some words of wisdom that any artist can learn from.
