On Monday afternoon's broadcast of Jeopardy!,the contestant in third place opted to forgo a guess at the correct answer during Final Jeopardy in order to tell longtime host Alex Trebek that he was loved. His intentionally incorrect response caused him to fall to $5, but it got Trebek choked up. "That’s very kind of you. Thank you," Trebek said in response to the gesture.

Check it out from the Twitter feed of news anchor Liam Martin:

That contestant, Dhruv Gaur, explained the thought process behind his decision from his Twitter account. Good stuff here.

...for context, Alex had just shared with us that he was reentering treatment for pancreatic cancer. We were all hurting for him so badly. 2/n

I’m just very grateful I got the opportunity to say what I know everyone was thinking. Sending all the love. #weloveyoualex

In March of this year Trebek, who's 79, was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Two months later, he reported that he was responding well to treatment, and he finished up his first bout with chemotherapy in time to resume his hosting duties for Jeopardy! in time for its August taping. However, after follow-up immunotherapy proved ineffective, he once again underwent chemo treatments in September.
