As our country attempts to come to grips with its mounting gun violence epidemic, an incident in Texas shows us that the problem isn’t confined to mass shootings and police violence. Guns kill people, even when there is no definitive intention to cause harm. That is why Devyn Holmes, 26, is currently on life support after suffering a gunshot wound to the head that occurred in a Facebook Live video gone very much awry. In the video, Holmes is seated in the passenger's seat of a car where other riders are messing around with two firearms. At one point, Holmes can be seen handling one of the weapons himself. However, when a woman in the driver's seat causally picks up the gun and sort of waves it around, an uncomfortable Holmes says, “You’re making me nervous.” He's assured the handgun isn’t loaded, but moments later, the gun goes off. Holmes appears to have been shot, as blood streams onto his white T-shirt.

As the New York Daily News reports, the other man in the vehicle has not been charged. However, a woman in the car, 25-year-old Cassandra Damper, has been arrested for tampering with evidence. As the Daily News reports, Damper had tried to clean gun residue from his hands. According to police, the case has been referred to a grand jury.
