Clowns

You may have felt that there were a lot of clowns in Congress, but now there’s a literal clown running for it. That’s right, Steve Lough is a former professional clown who’s hoping to secure a seat as a representative of the grand old state of South Carolina.

"They joke that the president and Congress are all clowns," Lough said when he announced that he was running. "Well, in my professional opinion, they are the worst clowns I've ever seen."

Sadly for me, Lough running as a Democrat, so there go all my Republican jokes. Conservatives, however, must be having a field day with this one. A South Carolina native, Lough will be running against four other candidates in the state’s primary. The seat is currently held by Ralph Norman, a Republican. Before Lough set his sights on politics, he was employed by Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus. I guess working in the circus can’t be too different from working with the current White House.

But before you write this clown off as...well, a clown, it’s worth noting that he’s an educated one. Lough went to Dartmouth before continuing his education at the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Clown College. As far as political experience is concerned, he volunteered for both Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaigns. To be honest, an actual clown may be a step up from some of our current representatives.

You can learn more about Lough and his candidacy on his website, ClownForCongress.com. Quite appropriately, his slogan is “Aim high! Vote Lough!”
