The crash occurred between Marymart Farm Road and Lanetown Road near Crozet on a train headed to Greenbrier. The train was carrying Republican members of Congress who were headed to Greenbrier on a retreat, and the White House has confirmed the reports.
Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation, according to a statement from the White House. One fatality and a serious injury have been confirmed, although no injuries have been reported from the members of Congress aboard the train. The train left Union Station at 8:30 a.m. before hitting a garbage truck at 11:20 a.m. Amtrak has released a statement saying no passengers or crew members were injured.
"An Amtrak train came into contact with a vehicle that was on the tracks at 11:20 a.m. in Crozet, Va," reads the statement. "There are no reported injuries to passengers or crew members. Local law enforcement is investigating the incident and crews are inspecting equipment for damage. The train originated in Washington, D.C. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available."
