Donald Trump

Trump, a man so unfathomably insecure that he adorns his golf clubs with framed fake Time magazine covers featuring his nauseating face, took time off from publicly supporting an accused child molester Monday morning. His distraction? In a supreme act of irony neither he nor anyone who supports him will notice, Trump has proposed the idea of awarding a FAKE NEWS TROPHY (emphasis via his stupid ass) to the news organization that most refuses to bow at his feet.

Seriously. Here's the tweet.

We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me). They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 27, 2017

There's a lot to unpack here, probably too much given the constraints of this article, so I'm going to rely on the accomplished unpackings of others:

...And this year's Fake News Trophy nominees are:
•Kellyanne "alternative facts" Conway
•a "freshly baked pecan pie" by chef Sarah Huckabee-Sanders

And finally.....
•The King of Swing...
•The Don of Con...
•The Description of Total Fiction...
•Donald J Trump!!! pic.twitter.com/qj1n3RcUZQ

The winner of the fake news trophy will get their name on the cover of a fake Time Magazine and receive a fake Renoir as a bonus prize.

Stop attacking the free press this is a democracy.

We should have a contest that whoever wins the popular vote becomes president.

I believe this is an actual Fake News Trophy pic.twitter.com/TVAPgj5PIf

Dear Dodo-in-Chief: u realize that this tweet is going 2be an exhibit against u in the DOJ -TimeWarner antitrust case right? It also smacks of collusion since u did it on day when Vlad cracked down on US networks. For that reason, it may open u to other civil liability. G’night! https://t.co/acyCYYSYeK

— Norm Eisen (@NormEisen) November 26, 2017

Norm Eisen, who served as chief White House ethics lawyer under President Barack Obama, warned Trump over the weekend that a previous tweet in which he made baseless "fake news" claims against CNN could be used as evidence that the Department of Justice's recent AT&T lawsuit was inspired by his personal feelings toward the network.

The DOJ sued to block AT&T's takeover of CNN parent company Time Warner, arguing in Hill-cited documents that the move would violate U.S. antitrust laws. Trump's tweet, Eisen argued, provides fuel for the counterargument that Trump's DOJ is just trying to stick it to CNN.
