If you thought your roommate situation was bad, guess again. Maninder Adama, 33, was arrested last week after trying to extort two of his former roommates by threatening to post a video he secretly took of them having sex, according to SF Gate.

Around mid-June, the couple, who are in their 20s, received an email from someone claiming to be in possession of recordings of them having sex. In early July, the anonymous person threatened to post the video on Facebook unless the two paid him $2,000. He also attached screenshots from the video to prove the legitimacy of his threat.

The couple reported the matter to police after Adama increased his price to $5,000 and said he would not only post the video on several websites, but would also to send it to their families. After investigating metadata from the photos, authorities were able to quickly conclude that their former roommate was the one behind the extortion attempt.

From mid-March until the end of April, the couple roomed with Adama in a two-bedroom apartment in Fremont, California. When police conducted a search of Adama's residence, they seized laptops and recording devices which contained the video and an email account from where he issued those threats.

Adama was booked on suspicion of felony extortion and misdemeanors related to the invasion of privacy. He was arraigned in Fremont Superior Court on Monday.
