A mummified toe used in an iconic Yukon cocktail was stolen this past weekend, and the crime has residents completely shook. In likely the most bizarre story you’ll hear all day, the “sourtoe” was snagged by a passing visitor and now its owners at the Downtown Hotel in Dawson City are hoping the digit will be returned safely.

The toe was originally donated by a man who had it surgically removed, and it’s since become a Yukon tradition to consume a beverage with said body part inside the glass. According to reports, the thief ordered the cocktail and then promptly left without giving it back to the barkeep."We are furious," the bar’s official toe handler, Terry Lee, said in a news release. "Stunts like this adversely affect the whole community, not just the Downtown Hotel. We fortunately have a couple of backup toes, but we really need this one back."

The official press statement also had some choice words for the aforementioned bandit. “This guy asked to do the toe after the 9 to 11 p.m. toe time hours and one of the new staff served it to him to be nice — and this is how he pays her back? What a low life.” Lee believes the man is from Quebec, and mentioned that patrons had overheard the thief bragging about capturing the toe from the get-go.

The Downtown Hotel already has an established fee of $500 for swallowing the thing, whether it be by accident or on purpose. Meanwhile, the dude in question is facing a fine of $2,500 if he does not return the relic to its rightful place, which is of course: at the bottom of some brave soul’s frosted glass. If you consider yourself a bit of a private investigator, or happen to have any information regarding the matter, there is also a reward for bringing the perp to justice.

If you're planning on venturing into Dawson City anytime soon, you’ll be able to participate in the sourtoe tradition thanks to some backup numbers. To help prepare you for the event, you can check out the experience below via Discovery Channel.
