There's no question that this election has been particularly heated, and some people just can't take it anymore. One such person seemed to be Hillary Clinton campaign spokesperson Jesse Lehrich, who tweeted during last night's second presidential debate that Trump should "go fuck" himself.
Lehrich's tweet came in response to Trump's claim during the Sunday evening debate that Captain Khan, a Muslim-American soldier who was killed in Iraq, would still be alive if Clinton hadn't supported the war. Lehrich, who speaks on foreign policy for the Clinton campaign, tweeted at the GOP contender, "Hey @realDonaldTrump—regarding your claim that Captain Khan would be alive if you were president: go fuck yourself."
Khan's parents, Khizr and Ghazala Khan have been vocal opponents of Trump, and have advocated for Clinton's campaign. Notable, Khizr Khan spoke at the Democratic National Convention this summer, challenging Donald Trump to read the constitution.
The Khans released a statement following Sunday's debate saying Trump "only sacrifices the truth," whereas their son gave his life.
Lehrich apologized for the "inappropriate" language used in the "f*ck yourself" tweet, adding that he had tweeted from a "personal account," ostensibly to clarify that he was not speaking on behalf of the Clinton campaign.
